Residential Testing

Private Wells, Public Supply Wells... Why you should test:

Whether you have a private well or your water is supplied by a municipality, water quality is important to you and your family. Some contaminants found in drinking water have been linked to cancer and other toxic effects, posing risk to human health.  Many contaminants have no taste, odor or color. Their presence can only be determined by a laboratory. While there is no requirement to have your water tested, most states have recommendations for periodic testing of your home drinking water.  New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Water Quality Testing for Private Wells

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

The most common VOC contamination comes from gasoline, chemicals such as: MTBE, benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes. MTBE can be found in well water even in remote areas.

MTBE is the abbreviation for the chemical “methyl tertiary butyl ether”. This colorless liquid is a man-made chemical used widely as a gasoline additive to reduce pollution from automobiles.  Its presence in water usually indicates gasoline contamination in the vicinity of the well. However, since MTBE degrades very slowly and is highly soluble in water, contamination can travel a great distance in groundwater.

Metals

Because of toxicity and prevalence, of arsenic and lead are of greatest concern. Other metals such as copper, iron and manganese can also be of concern.  These and other metals can be tested for using our state of the art equipment.

Others

Other analyses can be performed which can determine if a is contaminated with bacteria or may be affected by agricultural or leach-field runoff. These tests include nitrate/nitrite and Coliform and E. coli bacteria.
